Engineering labor shortage
Due to Covid-19 and international geopolitics, the overall demand for semiconductors has increased, but it has also worsened the shortage of semiconductor talents. First-line semiconductor factories recruit employees at a better-than-market salary, which also affects employee stability.
In 2021, the "Student Internship Program" was proposed, by reaching into universities and colleges, we invited students to join PSMC and jump start their career with us. By providing opportunities for students who are willing to join RSMC after graduation, this helps them obtain familiarity with the potential work environment and team atmosphere and understand the operations of the fab while providing practical training.
In addition, PSMC implemented two employee stock option plans in 2020, which can be exercised in four years, to improve the stability of employees.

Equipment delivery time is extended, material prices continue to rise
In order to diversify chip sources, the United States and Japan plan to be self-sufficient in semiconductor production. This prolongs the equipment delivery time, increases material prices, which then affects the construction schedules and cost.
Due to meet PSMC’s expansion plan, procurement team will review with equipment suppliers about the progress of material preparation, countermeasures, and equipment assembling status regularly. Additionally, the procurement team will devise diversified policies to mitigate the impact of rising raw material costs.
